Israel to receive $38 billion in military aid from the US


The United States and Israel have reached final agreement on a record new package of at least $38 billion in U.S. military aid and the 10-year pact is expected to be signed this week, sources close to the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.

The State Department says the deal will be signed on Wednesday in Washington. The U.S. hasn't disclosed the exact sum, but officials familiar with the deal say it totals $38 billion during the next decade.

The officials say the deal phases out Israel's ability to spend part of the funds on Israeli military products, rather than American military industries. It also ends Israel's ability to spend a fraction of the aid on fuel. And Israel is agreeing not to ask Congress to approve more funds than are included in the deal.

The officials weren't authorized to discuss the details publicly and requested anonymity.
